As we discussed in the previous posts about the easy accessibility of reaching Udaipur, which is very well connected by all major cities:
By Air - Maharana Pratap International Airport, approx. 22 kilometers away from the city, many domestic carriers operate to the city. Quite recently there has been a couple of international carriers mostly to the middle east. I have been quite fascinated by the type of equipment of aircraft, so you can expect only single aisle aircrafts, so international is not that much to discuss. But the domestic PAN India connectivity is pretty good.
By Road or Surface - The roads leading to Udaipur all across are very good and smooth.
By Train - This sector is pretty interesting, for the longest of time Udaipur was connected via a meter gauge of rail network which has now fortunately been replaced by broad gauge rail network. However, there are no super-fast trains that connect to this city. However, if you are a luxury seeker, then you should not miss the “Palace on Wheels”
Interestingly, we have had an influx of travelers who have shown interest in a one way driving to Udaipur (All thanks to the ‘Self-drive’ cars) many choose to drive down to Udaipur passing through the magnificent mountain range of ‘Aravali Hills’ mostly when the weather is cool ranging from October to February (Pretty cold from mid-November to early February). Mostly these types of travelers fly in to the nearest city and then drive down to Udaipur.
Udaipur has a long list of places to visit, so we will try to cover as much as we can.
City Palace: The royal emblem and the living historical monument to convey the master art and the opulence of architecture which also gives us an enviable insight of the lifestyle of the royal family. Part converted into Luxury hotels, part inhabited by the current descendant of the Mewari kingdom.
In case if you like to explore and relive the medieval Udaipur, then walk unto the palace from Hathipole passing the by lanes of ‘Malda street’. While enroute to the palace via Malda street you will come across all the local made handicrafts and other local products. There is also a vintage and classic car museum.
Lake Pichola: Situated right at the heart of the city, is the largest lake within the city premises. Surrounded by palaces, ancient structures, temples, washing ghats and you will witness all the possible traditions being offered. On one side you will also view the newly built luxury hotels. There is a boat ride available which takes you around the lake and you can view the majestic Lake Palace hotel and Jag Mandir (Both situated in the middle of the lake) as close as you can. Lake palace as mentioned earlier is a resident only hotel, while to visit Jag Mandir one has to avail prior booking.

It also houses a museum, with a lot of artefacts preserved.
Saheliyon ki Baadi: The name translates to ‘Garden of the Maidens’ and was laid for a group of forty-eight women who had accompanied a princess of another royal state when she married a prince of Mewar. A lush green cover right in the middle of the city.
